Music
I've sorted these into 3 sections by date. Early music was created in my early to mid teens, messing around without learning much. Everything old is when I started really trying to learn music theory and the tools at my disposal, but all of these project files have been lost due to backup issues before a system wipe. New music is all on my current system after starting fresh in early 2024.
New
Yume Freaky Soundtrack
I did all music and sound design for a 3 day game jam entry! I had to learn how to create atmosphere and work with my 2 teammates on the fly, and so I think my contributions got much better as I went. The initial goal was to make short, looping, Yume Nikki-inspired tracks, but we ultimately decided it would be fun mess around with different structures. Below is my favorite track from the project, titled "Safety". You can download the game here, or click here to download the full soundtrack.
Peniscore
I was on a call super late at night with a few friends who kept throwing samples at me to see how fucked up of a song I could make after listening to Leroy all day. I really dislike the first 40 seconds, but after that I started getting into it a lot more than I expected. I had planned on adding much more to this the next day, but I decided to move on and count it as a stepping stone rather than risk polishing turds. In the end, I made something profoundly stupid in order to learn a lot.
Hypogeal
My first experiment since restructuring my workflow across my whole computer. In the months between Highway and this one I got a handheld Zoom recorder and went out to gather sound sources. I used a lot of those samples in this for texture and I somewhat like how they turned out.
Old
Highway
I made this after rediscovering some of the old stuff I used to listen to in middle school. I love how the saw harmonies came out, but I think my first experiment with hard fm bass sounds is too cheesy and repetitive.
Flutter
This was when I discovered Patcher and tried making a bunch of ambient textures. I think the repeating melody gets tired without enough modulation but it's a start toward something cool that I might go back to later.
Vivid
Dimrain47 is one of my favorite artists of all time and I really wanted to make something inspired by his style, using exclusively Sytrus presets. I like parts of this but I feel like I was padding for time by repeating lines twice each with slightly different voices. I'm not very happy with this anymore but I still love how the ending with the Earthbound soundfont piano feels.
Penitence
I really like the atmosphere this one creates. I wish I did a little more with the percussion besides layering two breaks and calling it a day but I think it sounds good regardless.
Streetlights
This was the point where I started looking at what other people were doing and how they were doing it. I think looping one uninterrupted break sample sounds really tacky now but without any drum programming experience it gets the job done.
Labs
This was my little experiment to test out how much milage I could get out of Spitfire Audio's LABS plugin.
Flashback
This is definitely the track I had the most fun making. It uses only 3x Osc and everything just fell into place naturally. I'm unsatisfied with a few parts of it now, especially the lack of anything going on in the bass and basic percussion, but it's still the high I'm chasing whenever I make something new.
Strings
At some point I got ahold of some strings VSTs and tried to make something inspired by Ceremonial Forest from Minoria. I adore this track and I aspire to make something I like as much as the last 16 bars.
Thsong3
My 3rd attempt at making something inspired by the Touhou Project soundtracks I was listening to at the time in highschool. The first 2 I made on FL Mobile during school and are probably lost, but they were pretty bad anyway. This was when I made everything with soundfonts for a while and I committed my efforts to FL Studio. I made a few other versions without the soundfont drums clipping but they lacked the sound I was looking for. I'll definitely remake this one day.
Project2
I think this is the first thing I was somewhat happy with when I picked up Ableton at the very beginning. I still like part of it somewhat and I'd love to give it the attention it deserves with a remake one day.
Early
Escape
I still really love parts of this second Pxtone tune. I was envisioning a Metroid-like escape scene in Cave Story but I can admit the constant beeping is too grating. The intro skips on repeat when properly played as a pttune, so just pretend it does.
Pxtone1
As far as I know this is the earliest project of mine I still have. Cave Story has always been my greatest inspiration and my intention here was to mimic its style for something like an area theme.
