About Me

Hi! I go by Skew online. My strongest interests are video games, their history, and game design. I grew up with Nintendo consoles, so my background in design is deeply rooted in the philosophies of their fourth through seventh generations. In my early teens I discovered online freeware games (and by extension a lot of independent creators) through websites like Itch and Gamejolt, and they've often been my biggest inspirations to create art ever since. Around the middle of highschool I made it my mission to experience and critically engage with as many games as possible to cast as wide a net as I can from which to draw inspiration from. My eventual goal is to create pieces of art I'm happy with and share them as the culmination of my inspirations and life experiences. Like a piece of myself I can hand off to others, however far off in the future that may be.

I've also been getting into writing music over the last few years. My roots and most passionate area will always be in chiptune, but as I branch out in my listening I keep taking in new ideas to build on top of that foundation. I'm still severely lacking in production experience but I like to think I have a distinguishable style in writing melodies. Regardles of the quality of my work, I enjoy writing and experimenting with building a style and I hope to continue improving.

Overall, I'm really passionate about media and art as a whole and I hope my love for all mediums comes across in my additude and writing.

About This Site

I started this website for a couple reasons. I have a lot of niche interests and a lot to say about them without a consistent outlet. I used a private Twitter account for a few years to keep up with friends and do some light journaling, but it frustrated me to no end. I kept a media thread for about a year and a half, however, which was one of the highlights of my time there and something I plan to expand upon here. I never had any kind of public social media like my friends did growing up, so the pressure to keep up and temptation to keep scrolling took its toll on me particularly hard in the months leading up to me quitting. In the end I made the difficult decision to put my trust in direct communication, losing out on the consistent updates I relied on in exchange for a much less stressful relationship with the internet. I still check up on people every once in a while on the computer, but it's exclusively a place that I can check into and walk away from as opposed to the permanent fixture it was on my phone. All of that is to say I was dissatisfied with social media and my relationship with it.

After about a month of detox I decided that having my own place to do whatever I want with is exactly what I need. My mission with this site is to make it into a little museum of my passions. I intend to put up all the long-form thoughts, updates, and small projects I would've kept mostly to myself in the past. If you love any of these things as much as I do feel free to contact me, and if you enjoy this site let me know in my guestbook!
